Lifetime and S-parameter measurements are used for studying the decomposition in Al-Ag alloys containing 3 and 5.9at% Ag. The potential and limits of the positron method in studying the chemical composition of the coherent Guinier-Preston zones and its change with the temperature is investigated. Further the formation of semicoherent gamma' particles is followed during isochronal and isothermal annealing.
